Boleto

Alyson Hagy

Boleto is cowboy poetry. Alyson Hagy writes beautifully about cowboys and the west. And Horses! I had horses growning up and rarely do novels describe horses and  horse people with a true eye. Alyson Hagy does, and wow, she writes exquisitely, paragraph after paragraph. Beautiful and poetric with great characters and a good story. You'll want to run off to a dude ranch and head out on a trail ride. Yes, I loved it!

The Chemistry of Tears

Peter Carey

I loved the voices of the two narrators in this novel. Both the modern day Catherine Gehrig, with her slightly snide tone, and the bewildered Henry Brandling way back in the nineteenth century. They are both attempting to deal with incomprehensible grief, and both are the instruments of an art that is beyond either of them. There's is also great bits about horology and automotons. It’s a quick read full of Carey’s surprising charm. Read it.

Read this extraordinary novel for language and style.  It is a classic tale by a first-rate writer.  Highly recommended!

An Instance of the Fingerpost

Iain Pears

Who did it? This is an historical mystery that is a fine Rosharon piece of writing—four different points of view.  Very well written—good history that reads like fiction.
